Oh Doctrine of Mine

By: Lewis E. Thomas

Oh doctrine of mine!, Oh doctrine of mine!
You cause me to be so spiritually blind!

I value you more than fine silver and gold!
You could never be in error because you are of old!

Oh doctrine of mine!, Oh doctrine of mine!
You are more intoxicating than a Fine Wine!

You blind me to the truth in God's Holy Word, but
To consider that you might be wrong is really absurd!

I resist correction and all attempts to reveal your error!
Those folks who preach the truth are a real terror!

To think you could be wrong would really be odd!
For I hold your teachings above the Teachings of God.

Oh doctrine of mine!, Oh doctrine of mine!
You keep The Truth of God from being able to Shine!

Though you are leavened with man-made tradition
For you I will maintain my unholy volition!

I will defend you tirelessly with every fiber and breath!
But are you taking me down a path that leads to death?

"If the blind lead the blind, all fall into the ditch (Matt. 15:14); then who is leading you?"

"But in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men."

(Matt. 15:9)

"This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth." (Titus 1:13-14)

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." (2 Tim. 4:3-4)
